The proliferation of unmanned vehicles and in particular unmanned aerial vehicles has made the development of rugged equipment uniquely suited to this environment a necessity. This article will investigate specifically the unique demands on video technology in the unmanned air vehicle environment, literally the "eyes-in-the-sky" of the UAV pilot. Considerations including mechanical, power, processing component selection, compression algorithm, and latency will be assessed.
