SBS Technologies Teams with Motorola to Deliver Next Generation High Density I/O for Motorola's PXP Platform

SBS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SBSE) today announced it is teaming with Motorola Computer Group, a business unit of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), to provide a high-speed 6U WAN packet processor, ARIES 2000IP, to be designed for Motorola's PXP2000 platform. "SBS' development of the ARIES 2000IP for the PXP platform enhances its appeal as a comprehensive OEM telecommunications platform," comments Tom McKearney, vice president and director of marketing for Motorola Computer Group's telecommunications business unit. "SBS brings significant expertise in high-speed, modular WAN technology that will benefit Motorola's OEM customers worldwide." "The ARIES 2000IP allows Motorola to take advantage of a WAN packet processor that not only offers unprecedented performance through its 66 MHz/64-bit architecture but also allows for a rich set of high-density interfaces," states Charlie Tompkins, Chief Technology Officer for SBS Technologies. "Integrating the ARIES 2000IP into Motorola's PXP series of high-speed platforms clearly differentiates Motorola in the OEM telecommunications market." The ARIES 2000IP applies SBS' open platform architecture, leveraging a high-performance 66 MHz local PCI bus with dedicated packet buffer and dual PMC sites capable of hosting a multitude of high-density interfaces ranging from T1/E1 to multiple OC-3. Coupling the ARIES 2000IP with Motorola's PXP family of high-speed platforms allows Motorola to address high bandwidth OEM telecommunications applications including media servers, optical switches, signaling gateways and integrated access devices (IADs). As a result of its switched IP-based architecture, the PXP development platform allows OEMs to maximize IP throughtput to near line speed for next generation networks. The PXP helps to provide a multi-layer switch router, offering scalability and a distributed mesh architecture using 100BaseT Ethernet. This performance yields approximately 10 times the capacity of H.110-based systems. Addressing critical time-to-market issues, the ARIES 2000IP offers Motorola's PXP OEM customers access to a comprehensive Board Support Package (BSP) as well as seamless integration of communication software protocols. The modularity of the ARIES 2000IP provides OEMs a rich mix of PMC WAN options with rear I/O transition interfaces. The ARIES 2000IP is planned for release in the third quarter of 2001.
