Why does use of certain third-party carrier boards in conjunction with multiple Condor PCI/cPCI/PMC boards installed within the same Windows 2000 or XP machine sometimes lead to initialization failures on one or more of the installed Condor boards?...

Cause: Under WDM (Windows 2000/XP), Condor PCI/cPCI/PMC devices are enumerated at boot-time and assigned a unique device ID. When multiple Condor boards are installed, the device ID (0,1,...) associated with a board at the time it is installed may not necessarily be the same as the device ID assigned to the board at boot-time. In most cases, the Condor driver detects and transparently handles this condition, allowing the you to always use the installed device ID. Certain third-party carrier boards interfere with the driver's ability to detect and correct this condition, leading to board initialization failures.

Solution: If two Condor boards are installed, power down the machine and swap the positions of the two boards (including any carrier boards). That is, if board B1 is installed on carrier C1 in slot S1 and board B2 is installed directly in slot S2, move board B1 to slot S2 (B1 is still installed on carrier C1) and board B2 to slot S1. Restart the computer and follow the prompts to complete the driver update. After completing the driver update, reboot the machine one last time. Both boards should now initialize successfully. If more than two Condor boards are installed, download the CEI-Probe application attached to knowledge base article M-HOWTO-90208 (see link under 'Related issues' below). Run the application on the target machine and e-mail the resulting report file 'CEI Report.txt' (created on your Windows desktop) back to Condor technical support (support@condoreng.com) with a description of the problem. After examining the report file, we will provide you with further instructions.
