Radstone Technology the worlds leading independent supplier of high performance, embedded computer products for defense and aerospace applications has announced a technology refresh for its best-selling MIL-STD-1553 PMC mezzanine line. The new adapter, which is known as PMC1553E, not only offers improved performance and lower power, but also promises a substantial reduction in system costs. Performance has been significantly enhanced over the previous generation, with 66 MHz PCI bridging providing improved access to the 1553 bus. This also ensures greater compatibility with the latest generation PowerPC processor boards and CompactPCI single board computers. PMC1553E is a single or dual channel MIL-STD-1553B mezzanine suitable for use in a wide range of embedded applications in both air and conduction cooled environments. "Radstone’s original PMC1553 was the world’s first conduction-cooled PMC mezzanine, and its development contributed to the ANSI/VITA-20 standard for ccPMC mezzanines. It has gone on to become one of our best-selling products,” commented David Compston, Business Manager for Radstone’s Netcomms Group. “The new PMC1553E retains the same popular feature set but brings the technology bang up to date with low power devices and 66MHz PCI for compatibility with the latest SBC’s and cPCI processors.” Typical applications for PMC1553E include: mission electronics, navigational aids, target acquisition, UAV’s, electronic countermeasures and stores management. The module is compliant with MIL-STD-1553A, MIL-STD-1553B Notice 2 and STANAG 3838 protocols. Each channel may be independently selected as Bus Controller (BC), Remote Terminal (RT) or Bus Monitor (BM). Both direct and transformer-coupled signaling is routed to the P14 rear connector, and addressing for each channel on the PMC1553E may be set either by software or hard-wired from the backplane. Offering a typical thermal load of less than 4.5W, the mezzanine is designed for temperature extremes from -40°C to +85°C at the coldwall. PMC1553E is available to order now, with prices starting at $2,680. The new mezzanine augments rather than replaces the original PMC1553, which continues in full production.
