SBS Technologies, Inc., Industrial Computers Introduces Model ALM-100 Alarm System Monitoring Panel

SBS Technologies, Inc., Industrial Computers (formerly SBS Micro Alliance) announces the Model ALM-100 environmental status monitor and user interface panel for system control. The Model ALM-100 monitors fan speed, the system's internal temperature, the backplane input voltage, the dual power supplies, and the watchdog timer, providing audible alarm indication as well as buffered system status to the backplane. It has been designed for use with SBS Technologies' dual power segmented backplanes, Model BP20CI-PS (20-slot ISA) or Model BP19FP-PS (19-slot PCI/ISA). It can also be connected to a standard, non-power segmented backplane with an ISA interface card. It is ideal for a variety of mission critical applications such as telecommunications, military, industrial manufacturing, and remote data acquisition. "The ALM-100 is an easy-to-use, cost-effective way to monitor multiple fault-tolerant systems in a single enclosure," said Ed Larson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "It provides notice of potential system problems before it is too late keeping down time at a minimum." Price and Availability
The ALM-100 is priced from $275 (list) when integrated with SBS' power segmented backplanes and is now available. The ALM-100 with the ISA interface card is priced from $395 (list) with delivery available in Q3/Q4 1999. Features
The Model ALM-100 consists of the following controls: two power switches; two CPU reset switches; and an alarm audio bypass switch. The control signals are routed to and from the backplane via a 30-wire ribbon cable. Each of the power switches turn power on and off to the ISA connectors in their associated segment. This enables maintenance and card removal/insertion on one segment without interrupting performance of the other segment. The alarm bypass switch can be used to bypass the audio alarm. The Model ALM-100 is equipped with the following indicators: two power good LEDS; two hard drive active LEDs; temperature LEDs and bar graph; two power supply LEDS (left and right); and a fan speed and a voltage level LED. The two power good LEDS indicate that power is applied and the +5V signal is above 4.5 volts at the backplane. The fan speed, voltage level, and power supply LEDs are all "go/no go" indicators. The green indicator light changes to red in the event of a failure. The temperature LEDs and bar graph monitor the two temperature probes with a typical circuit accuracy of +/- 1&8224;C. The "TEMP A" probe should be placed near an exhaust vent and the "TEMP B" probe near the power supplies. The "TEMP B" LEDs are lighted only if the temperature at the probe exceeds 50&8224;C or 40&8224;C. The "TEMP A" bar graph display shows the temperature in 2.5&8224;C increments from 27.5&8224; to 50&8224;C. An alarm condition arises when the temperature at the probe exceeds 40&8224;C. The ALM-100 mounts in the center panel of SBS' Model FTU-1, a rackmount, fault tolerant PC enclosure. It can also be installed in any industrial platform in a horizontal or vertical 5.25" drive bay.
