SBS Technologies, Inc., Connectivity Products (formerly SBS Bit 3 Operations) introduces the Model 2345 IEEE 1394 to VME Direct Adapter, engineered for real-time applications requiring interoperability between a 1394 equipped host and a VMEbus system. Model 2345 efficiently maps IEEE 1394 messages directly into VME memory.
"Model 2345 is fast, affordable, simple to use, and delivers full VME memory access and control from any host equipped with an IEEE 1394 serial bus port," said Dave Greig, General Manager. "The driver for Intel Windows 98? platforms, included with the adapter, makes it truly plug-and-play. Installation is simple and quick. Operation is easy."
Price and Availability
Model 2345 is available for shipment in August of 1999 and is priced at $1400.00. It includes one 6U VMEbus card, support software, and a manual. A standard 6-pin IEEE 1394 cable is required but is ordered separately.
Features
Model 2345 enables fast, efficient data transfers via IEEE 1394 read and write transactions. DMA transfers are handled by software using the SBS Windows 98 driver. Transfer size is limited by the amount of system memory Windows can allocate at one time.
The adapter supports VME interrupts for consistent performance and ease of application development. VMEbus interrupts IRQ1 - IRQ7 (ROAK only), and interface error interrupts are supported.
Model 2345 can function as the VMEbus system controller providing the VME system clock and system reset, and Bus Error (BERR) global timeout. The adapter card may be configured to be a Single-Level (SGL) bus arbiter or a four-level arbiter in Priority (PRI) or Round-Robin (RRS) Mode. Configurations are set in non-volatile memory. Consequently, there is no need to set jumpers -- making installation fast and easy.
The adapter is VME processor-independent; no VME processor or processing is required. Address invariant byte swapping is also supported.
Extensive Support Software
Model 13-908 Support Software, provided with the adapter, includes a plug-and-play device driver for Intel Windows 98 platforms, installation tools and example programs. The software interface is simple to use and provides full VMEbus system control from the host. Model 13-908 uses the same basic Mirror API? used by support software for other SBS bus adapters, so migration between various interfaces is quick and easy.
Support software includes example programs that allow the user to change device configuration parameters, cause the VMEbus or adapter to reset itself, and access any supported VMEbus address spaces. Other example programs demonstrate how to provide VMEbus interrupt handling capabilities.
