SBS Technologies, Inc. Connectivity Products Announces Three High-Performance Fiber-Optic Bus Adapters for PCI to PCI Connectivity

SBS Technologies, Inc., Connectivity Products (formerly SBS Bit 3 Operations) introduces the Model 7X2 family of PCI* to PCI adapters designed for demanding applications requiring PCI to PCI connectivity and fiber-optic capabilities. Exceptional performance (DMA rates up to 45M Bytes/sec), very low latency, deterministic response, and transparent operation are provided by the adapters' rich feature sets. The Model 7X2 adapters' fiber-optic features make them ideal for environments requiring noise immunity, high-performance, electrical safety, isolation and long-distance separation (up to 500 meters). Three Model 7X2 versions are now available: Model 712 PCI to PCI adapter, Model 722 PCI to CompactPCI (cPCI) adapter, and Model 732 cPCI to cPCI adapter.
"For distributed applications requiring PCI connectivity, low latency, and high bandwidth, Model 7X2 adapters are ideal," said Dave Greig, General Manager. ìBoth systems retain independence -- unless a memory reference is made to an address on one system that translates to a reference on the other. Then the two buses donít just communicate, they actually operate as one."
Price and Availability
Models 712, 722 and 732 are available for shipment in July of 1999, and are priced at $3660.00. Model 712 includes two short form factor PCI cards, a support software CD-ROM, and a manual. Model 722 includes one 3U cPCI card, one short form factor PCI card, a support software CD-ROM, and a manual. Model 732 includes two 3U cPCI cards, a support software CD-ROM, and a manual. Fiber-optic cable to connect the two adapter cards is required but is ordered separately.
Features
The adapters support two methods of intersystem communication: memory mapping and Direct Memory Access (DMA). Memory mapping controls random access (PIO) transfers. Random access reads and writes from the local system to the remote bus, and from the remote to the local are supported. The adapters provide flexible mapping of the local bus address space to the remote memory address space.
DMA is the automatic transfer of data from one systemís memory to another's. Model 7X2 adapters support Controller Mode DMA transfers at sustained rates up to 45M Bytes/sec.
SBS PCI adapter cards conform to PCI Local Bus Specification 2.0. The cPCI adapter cards meet PICMG 2.0 specifications but are limited to PCI 2.0 compliance.
Extensive Support Software
Support software provides all the tools required to access and control the adapter. Each support software model includes a loadable device driver, extensive example programs, tools for device driver installation, and documentation. Support software greatly simplifies writing portable code to use with other SBS Technologies, Inc. Connectivity products.
Software drivers are included for Windows NT, Solaris, and IRIX.
