SBS Embedded Computers (formerly V·I Computer) announces the shipment of its new Power·4C VME board, satisfying customer demand for the highest performance PowerPC processor currently available. The 4C features the 604R running at 366 MHz and delivering 9.2 SPECfp and 14.8 SPECint. Applications include shipboard communication systems, flight simulators and high performance servers for datacom applications. "The Power·4C is the latest in our series of high performance PowerPC VME boards," said Harry White, President of SBS V·I Computer. "The 604R processor includes a double precision floating point unit allowing customers a 50 to100 percent performance boost compared to the 750. Add in the memory and I/O flexibility and the Power·4C is an extremely powerful board." Price and Availability The Power·4C offers an effortless upgrade from many other commercial PowerPC boards with p2 I/O. Available for immediate delivery, the 4C is priced at $5,175.00 with 64 MB. Additional memory can be added with 2 memory mezzanine modules. Features For customers that require p2 I/O, the Power·4C offers 10/100BaseTX/AUI, SCSI-20, 2 RS-232C and 2 RS 422 serial ports off p2. If backplane space is at a minimum, SBSí paddleboard measures a scant 9.5cm x 4.5cm or customers can target a standard 80mm 761 transition module. To increase flexibility on the 4C, customers can add additional memory with 1 or 2 memory modules (64 MB or 128 MB) yet still maintain a single VME slot. Further flexibility on card includes a standard PMC module site, with 1553, FDDI, ATM, TI/EI, graphics, and many more PMC modules supported and sold directly by SBS Embedded Computers. To complete the Power·4C, real-time operating system software support includes VxWorks, pSOS+, Lynx OS and Open BSD. All board support packages are supplied and supported directly by SBS Embedded Computers.
