SBS Embedded Computers announces the VR6, a new PC-based VMEbus CPU board for rugged environments. The VR6 features high shock and vibration immunity and extended temperature. Equipped with stiffener bars, wedge locks, conduction cooling and conformal coating, it's able to operate under extreme industrial and military applications. The board is available with an optional temperature range from -40&402; up to +85&402;C.
"VMEbus PCs are inherently more robust and reliable than other industrial ISAbus PCs," said Clarence Peckham, President of SBS Embedded Computers. "The standardized rugged Eurocard format permits mounting in proven 19" racks. Since all the functions are integrated onto one board, it avoids unreliable interconnects."
Price and Availability
The VR6 is priced from $3,700 and is available for delivery in four to six weeks.
Additional Features
The rugged VR6 can be used with a 233 MHz Intel Pentium&8482; processor with MMX&8482; or with the AMD-K6&8482; with up to 300 MHz. The local PCIbus supports a maximum data transfer rate of 132 Mbytes/sec. Integrated on the board are a 64-bit VGA/LCD graphic controller (1280x1024), Fast-Ethernet, Ultra SCSI-2, EIDE, and a VME64 controller. In addition to MS-DOS and Windows&8482; NT/95, SBS supports real-time operating systems such as QNX&8482; and VxWorks&8482;. The user can select between a HDD or a Flashdisk. The multiprocessor VMEbus interface allows a system to expand with price sensitive industrial I/O solutions. Ready to use VME and I/O-DLLs also save time and money.
In addition, 512 Kbyte L2 cache together with the 82430HX chipset provide maximum performance. The 64-bit main memory is extendable from 8 to 128Mbyte EDO, and available with optional error correction (ECC) technology. The entire memory area of 128 Mbyte is cacheable. The standard board includes two USB, four RS232/422, one floppy, one keyboard and a PS/2-mouse interface, additional two enhanced parallel ports (EPP), realtime clock, watchdog and a programmable NMI timer (0.25 to 16msec) for hard real time.
The VR6 includes a CAN (2.0), a PMC/PCI interface for on-board extensions and an optional integrated MIL-STD-1553 bus controller with two communication channels. This MIL-STD-1553 is able to build a dual-redundant bus up to the encoder/decoder level in the terminal nodes. The 8-layer board itself is implemented in a 6U form factor and consumes only one slot with an attached heat sink.
