Radstone Technology Announces the ASD-1 Sonar I/O Board

Radstone Technology, the world's leading independent supplier of high-performance, rugged VME-based computer products, announces the ASD-1 sonar I/O board. The ASD-1 is a fully rugged 6U VME ADC/DAC board developed to provide a Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) solution for sonar I/O. ASD-1 is also suited to seismic / acoustic and other frequency domain applications. The ASD-1's I/O sub-system combines 16 simultaneously sampling 16-bit sigma-delta A/D channels each at up to 195 kHz and 8 simultaneously updating output channels using the latest 16-bit delta-sigma D/A converter technology at up to 108 kHz each. Each of the 16 sigma-delta ADC channels has an AC coupled differential receiver with a fixed gain amplifier set at 1(0dB). (Optionally with a PGA stage providing very powerful optimization of the input dynamic range.) Input Bandwidth is limited by the 64 X oversampling converter technology and a second order Butterworth analog filter on each input.  Similarly, each of the 8 delta-sigma DAC outputs provides a 3rd Order Bessel filter for shaping of each output waveform whilst also ensuring a linear phase response. The ASD-1 also provides an embedded sub-system as an intelligent acquisition controller with a message-based interface for command and control, as well as the option for data transfer.  The StrongARM( based design is the local PCI arbiter and controls access to the I/O resources. The VME 64 interface is implemented using the industry standard Universe II bridge to the internal PCIbus.  A PMC site will enable systems designers to match the ASD-1 to application specific requirements for data transfer and connectivity to the host processor.  ASD-1 also integrates with other Radstone computer products via a 32-bit PCI connection via the VME P0 connector. The ASD-1 provides very powerful embedded BIT.  The core functionality of the BIT routines is based upon a flexible output loopback scheme, where any output channel may be selected as a test signal injected into all ADC input channels.  Further BIT, using an external test signal connected to input channel 16, may be routed to all inputs for verification.
